A Day at the Races

One of the truly lucky parts of living is Upstate NY is being able spend a day at the
Saratoga Race Track in August.

Depending on where you enter you may be greeted by these kind gentlemen. Lawn jockeys are as much a part of Saratoga as the horses themselves.

I LOVE all of the hanging baskets...

...each one different, but just as beautiful as the next.

This reminds me of John's Greenhouse and Florist he owned back in the 90's. He decorated the landscape in a similar fashion, except his red salvias where in the middle of a circle of marigolds. His salvias grew 30 inches high and round like a bush. They were a show-stopper.

Everybody knows by now that I love hydrangea bushes, but let's not forget they come in tree varieties, too!

Fabulous Fillies Day is an annual tradition at the track and all the race horse's have pink numbers and even the NYRA flag is pink for the day - as they raise awareness for breast cancer.

The Grandstands are always nice to look at and the geranuims are not too shabby!

Took a walk around and found the Carousel. Flowers are everywhere at the track.

I am very lucky to have been invited to attend the races in the "At the Rail Pavilion" for the past few years. Besides the all you can eat gourmet food- you can get very up close and personal with the horses.

The power of these beautiful animals amaze me.

...and now on to the races!

...and their off!

...coming around the turn

...and down the home stretch

...and the winner is...

...well John and I.  We enjoyed great weather, pretty flowers, good food, some drinks and lots of fun at the track; while covering our bets with our winnings. All-in-all a great way to spend a day.

...and since this is a wedding blog, I would be remiss not to mention that they do weddings at the Saratoga Race Track. Saratoga Race Course is filled with history and would be a great place for a ceremony or reception. They offer several packages on their website for a track side receptions or saying your vows in the Winner's Circle!

  1. I love these photos. And, yes, the hanging baskets there are GORGEOUS! I want to know how they keep them so fresh all season long.
