Mary & Joe's Marathon Wedding

I had the honor this past weekend of designing for one of my most unique and fun events thus far. Mary and Joe decided to renew their vows after 20 wonderful years of marriage. When I talked to Mary over the phone I could just tell how happy she was to be getting married to her husband, best friend and training partner all over again.

Mary and Joe enjoy exercising. She supported Joe during his recent half-ironman and he supports Mary during her long distance runs. What made their story special and fun is that they were to renew their vows after Mary crossed the finish line of the Hudson Mohawk River Marathon in Albany, NY this past weekend.

Mary's bouquet was composed of rich fall hued roses, antique hydrangea and clematis vine from my garden, eggplant mini callas, hypericum berry, and seeded eucalyptus.

Mary's daughters carried smaller posies of roses and seeded eucalyptus.

I added a pink Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon to each of the bouquets. Mary is a survivor and a great example of just how strong the cancer community is.

I couldn't leave Joe out! He donned a simple boutonniere of mini calla and hypericum berry

I trained for this marathon, but due to injury, I was forced to watch, cheer and take pictures of all the amazing runners. This photo was taken at approximately the 1 mile point in Niskayuna, NY. My Splendid Stems facebook page has a Marathon Album with many more pictures. Feel free to see if you or one of your friends are in my pictures.

Mary wore a special running shirt that said "Here Comes the Bride." Mary is Chief Running Officer and owner of Running High Tees, specializing in everyday tees and running shirts with various sayings...some that are just plain fun and some great sayings that support the cancer survivor community. Mary is also a regular on the Times Union Runners Blog and her Because Mary Says So facebook page is a place where runners of all levels can go and interact, get support and to have some fun.

What's not to celebrate?

Congratulations Mary on your 26.2 and on your and Joe's first 20 years of happily ever after.

Thanks for letting us be a part of it.

btw - Mary will be putting her mantra "Stronger than Cancer, Faster than Fear" to the test as she does her 2nd marathon in 8 days this weekend in Syracuse...crazy! Good Luck!
